This is a bit long, but it tells the whole story…


It was towards the end of tax season, and I was on my way home after another 13 hour day when the pains in my chest started. I was naturally under a lot of stress, but this was different. My father had heart issues. My grandfather had heart issues. My uncle had heart issues. And here I was , weighing 270 lbs and worried about a heart attack. Something had to give.

I’m happy to say I didn’t have one. In June, I made a decision to make some changes. It started with my diet. I started exercising, at your typical big box corporate gym. I was an athlete once, so I knew a little about a little bit. 10 minutes the first day, 12 minutes the second day, so on and so forth. I started to see results, but I wanted more. Then my life changed.

An old college friend of mine introduced me to CrossFit Soul. I started by taking the free Saturday classes, and there quickly came a point where no matter how hard I worked at GloboGym, I wasn’t getting out of it what I got on Saturdays. Beyond that, the sense of family and encouragement we receive here is unparalleled. So, I made the very easy decision to join Soul full time.

I wake up at 5:30 every day for our 7 am class. Today in particular, I shattered my back squat personal record by 50 lbs. Fifty. Which is about the same amount of weight I’ve lost since that day I thought I was going to die.

I’ve been a notoriously horrible eater and I had become sedentary as I got into my late 30s. I’m here to tell you that if I can turn my life around, anyone can, and I owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to Team Soul.
